Paparazzi

Celebrity, at least from the outside, can easily be admired and revered. And clearly, there seem to be some quite impressive perks. However, while I see why it would be unreasonable for (some of) them to have complete privacy, I do think that as humans, they deserve the same "inalienable" rights and and respect for (some measure of) privacy as everyone.

That being said, there are plenty of celebrities who are just way out there and asking for it. And, there are some who do their thing, and try hard to keep to themselves, yet they still get stalked by these creepy scum of the earth demonic shutterbugs commonly referred to as paparazzi.

I truly believe that any celebrity being stalked by these maggots should have the complete legal right to defend themselves from their presence and force them to flee using any means necessary and I really mean, any means necessary.

Go get a real job you fuckyfucks and leave people alone.

'Fuckyfucks' being a new favourite insult for me aside, I find myself kinda sorta half-agreeing with you. On the one hand, most paparazzi are quite clearly the scum of the earth. On the other, most celebs appear to be cut from the same cloth...and when they're, they're so mind-bogglingly stupid and easily manipulated that I find it difficult to sympathise.

But then hey, you already know how desperately cynical and unwilling to give anybody the benefit of any doubt whatsoever I am. :)

Michael - I agree with you about many celebs, but I gotta cut some slack to some of them out there. Fuckyfucks was completely spontaneous - glad you like it....feel fre to use it at you leisure.

I have to ask this Chris, is this how you feel about them or is this how Howard feels?

Go ahead and hate me for that question.

Egan - The last straw for me was Princess Diana. As far as I am concerned, she was murdered by the paparazzi.

So what's your take on them and Britney? Should they "just leave Britney alone" or what?

It's not like she's trying to avoid them. You'd think she'd have someone run her errands.

Egan - I agree that Britney is not going out of her way to avoid them and in fact, it seems as if she is intentionally attracting their attention. In her particular case, I think she is severely mentally ill and needs serious help. Were the paparazzi actually human, they would back off becuase the attention she gets from them only fuels the negative effect it has on her. She is in desperate need of an intervention - at this pace, I am amazed she is still alive and would almost guarantee that she will not see her 30th birthday.

But really, would they have a job if people weren't so fascinated and fueling the fire? There would be no market for all these photos if people stopped buying and watching all those trashy celebrity "news" shows and magazines, so doesn't the general public play some part in all of this? I'm not saying the paparazzi isn't full of losers, but who's putting money in their pockets?

As Arsenio would say, file under things that make you go hmmm.

Airam - I declare "fuckyfucks" as in the public domain - enjoy it!

Sprizee - You are right about those who fuel the fire, me included. Would it make a difference if the rest of humanity pitched in by not buying their stuff, of course. All that said, I still feel the same way about them.

Well, it's (more or less) a free market, right? The paparazzi wouldn't exist if nobody bought what they were selling. And fucked up celebrities is the latest iteration of that. Witness the abhorrent likes of Perez Hilton trying to pass off what they do as some ill-defined version of irony.

Unfortunately, that's the rather downtrodden and pathetic spirit of our times. I can't really see any of these people as victims, and many of them would be on my shortlist for that old gun and one bullet question.
