RIP Phoebe Snow

There are a lot of singers, even a lot of pretty good singers and some great singers. Phoebe Snow was truly a voice amongst the best, and sadly, she passed away today at the age of 58.

Most singers that we recognize as "great" are easily recognizable - people that have spent much of their career in the forefront of the spotlight and in the press. Phoebe Snow was of a different breed, she called the shots and did things on her terms.

In the 1970's, she gave birth to her daughter Valerie, who was born with hydrocephalus and without hesitation, Phoebe dropped out of the spotlight and tended to her daughter's every need for the entirety of her short life. Valerie passed away in 2007 at the age of 31.

The world mourns your loss today Phoebe. As your beautiful voice brightens heaven's gate, say hi to Roy Orbison (and my folks) for me. I'm going to go listen to some of your music, which will live on forever.
